There is something about a weekend on the Oregon Coast that makes it easy to forget the clock. In Lincoln City, you can spend the morning walking the beach, the afternoon exploring local shops and restaurants, and the evening watching the sunset from your vacation rental.
With more than seven miles of coastline, Lincoln City offers plenty of room to find your own favorite stretch of sand. Whether you are visiting for a long weekend or a few days during the week, there is no shortage of ways to enjoy the coast.
Start Your Weekend at Roads End
For a quieter beginning to your weekend, head north to Roads End. This area is known for its wide sandy beach, beautiful coastal views and peaceful setting.
At low tide, the rocky shoreline becomes especially interesting. You may find tide pools, interesting rocks and plenty of opportunities to explore. Just remember to keep an eye on the tide when walking around rocky areas.
Spend Some Time Beachcombing
One of the best things about an Oregon Coast vacation is that you do not need an itinerary for every hour.
Bring a jacket, walk down to the sand and see what the tide has left behind. You might find interesting pieces of driftwood, shells, rocks or other treasures.
Lincoln City is also home to the Finders Keepers glass float tradition, when handcrafted glass floats are hidden along the beach for visitors to discover during the season.
Take a Drive Toward Depoe Bay
When you are ready for a change of scenery, head south along Highway 101 toward Depoe Bay.
The landscape changes as you move from Lincoln City’s long sandy beaches toward the rocky shoreline and dramatic ocean views around Depoe Bay. It is an easy drive and makes a wonderful half day outing.
Depoe Bay is especially known for whale watching and its spectacular oceanfront views. You can spend some time along the waterfront watching the waves, looking for whales or simply enjoying the scenery.
Leave Room for Doing Nothing
Perhaps the best part of an Oregon Coast weekend is not having to fill every minute.
Stay in a comfortable vacation home, make coffee in the morning, walk the beach, come back for lunch and head out again when you feel like it.
Whether you choose a vacation home near Roads End, Lincoln City, Lincoln Beach or Bella Beach, the coast is always close.
Sometimes the perfect Oregon Coast getaway is simply a few days with nowhere you have to be and plenty of ocean to enjoy.
